Misirlou Peeka

Misirlou Peeka was first taught art by their mother, Marlena Lupica. They went on to attend art programs at The Art Institute of Atlanta and Georgia State University for eight years as an undergrad. They have lived in Northern Ohio, Atlanta, Georgia, and Montreal, Quebec before settling down for good in Long Beach, California with their partner and pets.

Since graduating, Misirlou has been compelled to create a body of highly detailed handmade collages using an assortment of music memorabilia they collected during more than a decade as a DJ, and discarded materials found in Montreal garbage piles.

Their work has been inspired by a combination of experiences such as untreated mental illness, psychedelic experiments, absurdism as a natural progression after immersing in nihilism, and life as a queer person. Cannabis consumption has been crucial to the creation of these collages, and the artist dreams of displaying their work in places where people who are under the influence of psychoactives can get the most out of viewing it.
